Description
COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A former Coffee County deputy bonded out of jail after being arrested on 10 charges tied to an alleged domestic misconduct investigation, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
41-year-old Shantokeo Rolax was arrested Tuesday after the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance on November 13. The GBI says the charges stem from allegations made by a female officer Rolax was in a relationship with.
Rolax is facing a combination of felony and misdemeanor counts, including:
- Providing false statements or writings to a government agency
- Violation of oath by a public officer
- Criminal trespass
- Harassing phone calls
- Stalking
- False report of a crime
- Willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer
- Unlawful conduct during 911 calls
- Influencing a witness
- Rolax posted a $15,000 bond, and the Sheriff’s Office confirms he has been terminated. Under his bond conditions, Rolax is prohibited from any direct or indirect contact with the victim.
Sheriff Fred Cole says the developments are disappointing.
“I can’t say that I am surprised… but I will say I am disappointed. Anytime somebody you know misplaces the trust of the community, it hurts you and that’s what happened here.”
Cole says that when he learned of the allegations on November 13, he immediately contacted the GBI. That night, he suspended Rolax. When arrest warrants were issued, Rolax was fired.
Cole also addressed rumors circulating online.
“This investigation is in no way influenced by all the noise on Facebook… This has no form or fashion connected to outside parties not involved in this case.”
The Sheriff’s Office says requesting GBI involvement is a standard protocol to ensure fairness and transparency. The GBI tells WALB the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no further details can be released at this time. Sheriff Cole says the community should know that “no matter who you are, you will be charged to the fullest extent of the law.”
