ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Lewis Harrison, a former WALB Hero Among Us, celebrated his 100th birthday in Albany.
Harrison, originally from Edison, served in Germany after World War II, where he received a corporal ranking and an Army of Occupation Medal. During the party, family and friends gathered to tell stories from over the years. Westover’s JROTC students presented the colors.

Donald Harris, Harrison’s son, said it is inspiring to see his father live his life to the fullest.
“It makes me feel so proud first of all, that God gave him one hundred years, a century yield,” Harris said. “I’m so glad to see him. And with the sound mind, sound body, and strong faith in the Lord. And I’m really happy and blessed that I can see this. And he can see this.”
Harrison is not the only member of his family reaching the century mark. His mother lived to be 103 and says he hopes the trend continues for his family.
