According to Coroner Nelms, Gibboney was a foster father to three children who attend Worth County Schools. Now, those children are without a home.

When crews arrived at the scene Monday afternoon, the house was already heavily engulfed in flames. Gibboney did not survive.
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire. Gibboney’s body has been sent to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy as part of the investigation. His family has been notified.

Neighbors in the area say they knew Gibboney as someone who mostly kept to himself and lived a quiet life. Several say they were shocked to hear what happened, and say their hearts especially go out to the children who lived in the home.
As officials work to piece together exactly what led to this deadly fire, neighbors say they’re hoping the family, especially those children, can find support during what’s clearly a very difficult time.
