Description
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — Four people, including three 17-year-olds, were arrested after shots were fired near a block party early Sunday, May 31, morning, according to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD).
Officers arrested Michael A. Lewis, 20; KaMeon J. Wright, 17; Traveon Turner, 17; and Bryan Burke, 17.
A VPD officer was reportedly responding to a call to disperse a large crowd at a residence in the 800 block of South Oak Street on Sunday at 1:40 a.m. While the officer was in his patrol car waiting for the crowd to leave, gunshots were heard near the location, VPD said.
The officer ran toward the sound of the shots and got the description of a vehicle traveling through the area at a high rate of speed, according to a VPD press release. No one in the area was hurt by the gunfire, officials said.
The officer on scene reportedly gave the description of the vehicle to nearby officers, who found the Dodge Ram in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in the 1100 block of Madison Highway. Officers then conducted a traffic stop, detained the four occupants—Lewis, Wright, Turner and Burke—and recovered a handgun that appeared to have been used during the incident, the release said.
All four were taken to the Lowndes County Jail. They were charged with:
- Aggravated assault on a peace officer — felony
- Two counts of aggravated assault — discharging a firearm within a vehicle toward a person — felony
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony — felony
- Two counts of criminal trespass, damage to property — misdemeanor
- Reckless conduct — misdemeanor
- Discharging of a firearm near a public street or highway — misdemeanor
Turner had additional active arrest warrants unrelated to this case.
