Description
ALBANY, Ga (WALB) - In a city with Georgia’s highest concentrated poverty rate, local mothers are facing impossible choices when it comes to providing necessities for their newborns.
According to BabyCenter data, first-year baby costs average $222 per month for formula and $86 per month for diapers and wipes. The financial burden of caring for an infant has become overwhelming for some local mothers.

Helping Mamas in Albany is providing free newborn essentials to families in need, every month in 2026.
Today, Helping Mamas distributed free newborn supplies at Dougherty County Central Library and Tallulah Massey, offering relief to struggling families in the community.
While Helping Mamas serves as a lifeline for Albany families, demand is outpacing donations. The organization said they accept contributions from community members who want to help local mothers provide for their babies.
