ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - As summer travel season approaches, many Georgians are adjusting their budgets to keep up with higher prices at the pump. According to AAA Georgia, gas prices across the state are higher than they were this time last year.
Drivers across Georgia are continuing to feel the sting of rising gas prices, with some stations now pushing past four dollars a gallon. According to AAA Georgia, the last time gas prices were this high was during the summer of 2022.
“It is hard to try to get around all being without gas. I mean, gas prices are very high. Extremely high. Especially if you only work in like a minimum wage job,” said Ashilyn Albritten.
Benjamin Goldinger said he can’t get as much gas for the same amount of money that he could have a couple months ago.
“Well, I mean, it’s harder to get to work some days, you know? I’m trying to just make it maintain. Really. And I wish something to be done about it,” Goldinger said.
AAA Georgia says that this time last year gas prices were over a dollar cheaper with the average cost in Georgia being $2.95. With summer coming up, many people say the rising costs are forcing them to rethink their plans.
“Do you believe that these gas prices are taking impact on summer plans? Yes, yes. You have to stay in the house. If you don’t have gas, can’t go anywhere,” Albritten said.
Rigby Brown said he’ll go swimming in the river.
“You already have to pre-plan and reset your budgets nowadays, as it is now, just to be able to get back and forth and pay your bills,” Brown said.
Experts say ongoing tensions overseas and increased demand heading into the summer travel season are once again driving prices higher, leaving many Georgians searching for relief at the pump.
