ASHBURN, Ga. (WALB) - One person has died following an officer-involved shooting in Ashburn, Turner County Coroner Jim Lumpkin confirmed.

According to Ashburn Police Chief Richard Troutman, the shooting happened on Wednesday, March 4, around 2:30 p.m.

Lumpkin said the man who died was a 25-year-old man, described by officials as a suspect.

Troutman said the incident occurred on North Street when an officer discharged his weapon, shooting the 25-year-old.

It is unclear what lead to a weapon being discharged.

The man was transported to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment after the shooting incident. Lumpkin said the 25-year-old died at Tift Regional Wednesday afternoon.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating this case. The 25-year-old’s body will be transported to Macon to the GBI’s crime lab for evaluation.
