ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - President Donald Trump’s allies continue to praise the administration and its efforts during his first 100 days in office. However, a CBS News poll indicates that most voters hold a different view.
Tuesday marks the 100th day of Trump’s second term.
Here in Georgia, opinions varied, from thumbs up to thumbs down, and others were more vocal about their feelings as Atlanta News First walked around Piedmont Park in Midtown on Monday evening.
Whether our informal conversations align with CBS’s national polling is hard to say.
However, the people we spoke with are passionate about their views on this presidency.
“He has not surprised us,” said Crystal Power, who voted for Kamala Harris in last year’s election. “He has not surprised me.”
Power expressed frustration with administration policies targeting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
“Try to make us feel as though we don’t belong in certain places where we have the education, the experience, and the wherewithal to hold ourselves in,” added Power.
Others are happy with the work so far.
Atlanta News First anchor Joe Gorchow asked a Trump supporter who goes by Allan what campaign promises he feels Trump has delivered so far.
“Immigration is a big one,” said Allan. “Cutting waste in the government. I think those are the two most effective parts of his campaign he’s delivering on right now.”
CBS News polling indicated a nationwide approval rating of 56% regarding how voters perceive Trump’s actions and policies on deporting illegal immigrants.
“On day one, he was going to make sure he made everything better,” said Zaki Abdul. “He’s a disaster.”
The CBS News poll shows that most voters nationwide disapprove of Trump’s second term. Voters believe Trump does not spend enough time lowering prices and focuses too much on tariffs.
Atlanta News First Washington Correspondent Jon Decker explains why Americans feel uneasy about the tariffs.
“Concerns that will lead to a slowdown in U.S. economic growth and potentially an increase in inflation,” said Decker. “Something the administration is concerned about.”
Some of that unease created contentious moments at recent town halls in Georgia. At Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s town hall, three people were arrested, and others were escorted out.
“People back home in my district are thrilled with President Trump and his administration and so grateful for everything that they’re doing,” said Greene, who represents Georgia’s 14th Congressional District. “However, they’re pretty frustrated at Congress because Congress doesn’t seem to understand the mandate that was given in November.”
