LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — More than 100 acres in Lee County are set to become a new residential subdivision, as city leaders plan for additional homes and retail development. Some residents say the growth is welcome, while others worry it may bring too much change.
Renderings for Phase 1 of the 32 Crossing subdivision, located along Robert B. Lee Road in Leesburg, show roughly 100 planned homes. Crews have already cleared the land as construction preparations begin.

Development plans for the neighborhood also include walking trails and playgrounds.
Lee County is moving toward a mix of long-time residents and newcomers.
Kenesha Bush has lived in Leesburg for almost 12 years. She says she is a proponent for development but not for more neighborhoods.
“I’m a little apprehensive about it,” she explained. “I’m not too excited about it because we live in Indian Oaks, and with the traffic already coming in, I feel like it could create more chaos. I just wish there were more family-oriented activities or restaurants instead of more residential areas.”
A Lee County 2024 Comprehensive Plan lists public greenspaces, trails and community activity areas as key needs as the county continues to grow.
The plan, with projections for the next 10 to 15 years, explained the city lacks recreation space and struggles with traffic.

WALB posted a question on Facebook asking residents whether they believe the development represents healthy growth for the rapidly growing South Georgia community or if it indicates too much change.
One group of residents said the growth is a positive, commenting: “The fact that developers still see growth in our area is something we all need to support and be grateful to see.”

Opponents on the other side critiqued the residential project, commenting: “Lee County is becoming just a bunch of houses and nothing else – we need restaurants and retailers to go along with these subdivisions”

The Comprehensive Plan includes other community weaknesses and growth opportunities.
One project listed in the document is a new recreation complex in Leesburg, scheduled for 2028.
