AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) — The Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office announced convictions in two Sumter County murder cases this week.

Christopher York case

On Friday, Feb. 27, a jury convicted Thomas Capps for murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a felony in the death of Christopher York. York died after being shot in the 100 block of Dogwood Drive in Americus on Dec. 21, 2022.

Judge W. James Sizemore sentenced Capps to life with the possibility of parole, plus five years.

Kedrick Williams case

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, a separate Sumter County jury convicted Eric Lewis for murder and aggravated assault in the death of Kedrick Williams. Williams died after being shot in the 100 block of Lester Street in Americus on Nov. 25, 2020.

Chief Judge R. Rucker Smith sentenced Lewis to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Others across South Georgia

In addition to the above guilty verdicts, the Southwestern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, announced that Adan Panzo of Webster County was sentenced to serve two consecutive life sentences for the 2024 arson that killed his two young daughters.
