ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A heavy law enforcement presence remained in an Albany neighborhood Sunday morning, Aug. 23, as city and county police investigated a shooting with multiple crime scenes.

Albany dispatch confirmed to WALB that police received multiple calls reporting gunfire in the area of Oakridge Drive and Habersham Road on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Both the Albany Police Department and the Dougherty County Police Department responded to the area. Witnesses on the scene told WALB they heard multiple gunshots echo through the neighborhood.

While official details regarding injuries have not yet been confirmed by law enforcement, a family member told WALB that at least one person — an 18 or 19-year-old recent Monroe High School Class of 2026 graduate — was shot.

According to the family member, an argument allegedly escalated into gunfire, with a car being shot at. The teenager reportedly ran to the nearby Marathon gas station on Oakridge Drive after being struck by a bullet.

WALB has reached out to both the Albany Police Department and the Dougherty County Police Department to confirm the number of victims, their conditions, and whether any suspects are in custody.
