ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper announced that applications for Georgia’s Hurricane Helene Block Grant Program will open on March 16 and remain available for six weeks.

According to Harper, the state has invested thousands of hours into securing the maximum amount of federal relief available for Georgia producers. The program is designed to assist as many farmers, commodities, and loss categories as possible in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

While officials acknowledge the relief funding will not fully cover every loss, Harper said the support will play a critical role in helping farmers recover and return to normal operations.

“This relief will not make our farmers 100 percent whole, but it will go a long way to help them get back on their feet and back to doing what they do best — providing the food, fiber, and shelter we all rely on.”

Additional details about eligibility requirements and the application process are expected to be released ahead of the March 16 opening date.
