Description

TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating after a high-speed interstate pursuit ended with a suspect dead on I-75 in South Georgia.

According to Georgia State Patrol (GSP) a trooper first tried to stop the driver around 1:17 p.m. Monday near mile marker 82 in Turner County. The suspect took off, leading troopers south on I-75.

During the chase, investigators said the driver pointed a handgun at troopers and other drivers. After several PIT attempts, a trooper spun the vehicle out near mile marker 58 in Tift County, sending it off the road and upside down.

Troopers, commercial vehicle officers and deputies from Turner and Tift counties surrounded the car. They said the driver refused to come out, even after negotiators used a PA system and a cellphone. Chemical agents were deployed.

As the suspect tried to get out, troopers heard two gunshots. They found the suspect face down next to the vehicle, dead from what investigators said was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
