Description
MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Eighteen months ago, the lives of a Mitchell County family forever changed because of a driver who struck their loved one and left him to die in a ditch in front of the family’s home.
88-year-old Amos Anderson spent some time on September 20, 2024, doing yard work at his Mount Olive Rd. home. But he would never make it safely back inside his house.
A driver hit and killed him. That person did not stop and did not call for help, choosing instead to speed away from the scene.

But the driver did leave clues to his or her identity.
Investigators say evidence at the scene indicates Anderson’s killer drove a vehicle of medium metallic gray in color, with likely damage to the front passenger-side headlight area. Possible vehicles driven by the killer could include a late-1990s Chevrolet Silverado, a 90s Ford Ranger, a Bronco or an Explorer.
For the past year and a half, the guilty party has managed to avoid arrest. But the Anderson family hopes that will change.
A community-funded reward for information in the case stands at $2,700.
Anyone wishing to contribute to the community-based fund to increase the reward offered in the case may email [email protected] for details.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Georgia State Patrol at 229-931-7000 or the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office at 229-336-2032.
