Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Hundreds of people gathered at Shiloh Baptist Church on Monday, Jan. 19, to participate in the Dream Walk, marching more than half a mile through downtown Albany to the courthouse in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Organizers said the march was designed to keep King’s dream of equality alive. The procession took over the downtown area as participants began the walk at noon.

Sherrell Byrd, one of the main organizers, said she was proud of the strong turnout for the march.
“It’s an amazing feeling to see so many people come out on a day where it’s supposed to be a day off. They made this a day on, and they’re coming out in support of the dream that Dr. King had before us, and we’re still continuing that dream,” Byrd said. “So it’s such a great feeling to see so many people of all ages coming out to continue the dream of Dr. King.”
The Dream Walk holds additional historical significance as it began at Shiloh Baptist Church, the same location where the Albany Civil Rights Movement started in 1961.
