ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Communities across South Georgia are adjusting their holiday plans as incoming inclement weather forces several cities and counties to cancel or postpone scheduled Christmas parades and festivities.

A strong weekend system is expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds and potentially hazardous travel conditions. Widespread rain is forecast overnight into early Sunday, with totals ranging from 2 to 4 inches. Some areas could see up to 6 inches during the heaviest downpours on Saturday.

As of now, numerous South Georgia communities have announced schedule adjustments, and more updates are expected as the storm system approaches. Some parades are being postponed to later dates, while others have chosen to cancel altogether and move forward with alternate holiday plans.

• Albany parade has been rescheduled until next Sat. Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.
• Americus parade has been rescheduled till Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. “All parade participants will receive updated lineup instructions and details in the coming days. The parade route and festivities will remain the same, and the City encourages the community to join downtown on the new date for a festive and memorable evening.”
• Bainbridge has cancelled Christmas at Chason due to inclement weather.
• Cordele has postponed the Christmas Parade
• Donalsonville parade has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.
• Douglas has cancelled the Downtown Tree Lighting ceremony due to weather.
• Lee County has postponed the Spirit of Christmas Parade and Festival to Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. on Starksville Avenue.
• Pelham has rescheduled Santa’s Workshop for Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. The deadline to register is now Dec. 10.
• Valdosta has cancelled the Christmas Parade.
