DESOTO, Ga. (WALB) - An investigation is underway after an overnight fire at Marthanna Living Way of Christ Church in DeSoto, according to Sumter County Fire Rescue (SCFR).

SCFR crews were called to a fire at the church at around 10:34 p.m. on Nov. 21.

When crews first arrived at the church, they found smoke coming from the eves of the building, but no flames on the outside.

After entering the church, fire crews found the fire on the ground floor, which was quickly controlled, SCFR said.

Officials say that at around 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 22, 40 SCFR firefighter personnel were at the scene extinguishing the hot spots and doing overhaul. Additional crews arrived on scene to provide additional tanker pumpers.

SCFR said no injuries were reported.

At around 1:40 a.m., the scene was turned over to the Sumter County Fire Investigator.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of Marthanna Living Way of Christ Church,” SCFR said.
