Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Members of the National Federation of the Blind in Albany held a community car wash fundraiser to raise awareness and support for people living with blindness.

Members of the National Federation of the Blind spent the day washing cars and connecting with the community while raising money to help people living with blindness get access to resources and support. Leaders with the organization say the fundraiser helps provide assistance to those facing financial hardships while also advocating for people who are blind or visually impaired throughout South Georgia.

“It means the world to me. I know that we’re helping and advocating for the blind. I myself, I also have a blindness condition and my mom is totally blind. So it means the world to us. We know that we’re helping somebody when we’re doing these, these fundraisers and things like that, because not only do we help the people that are blind, but we help those that are less fortunate.”

Organizers say events are about more than just raising money. It’s also about building awareness and reminding people that those living with blindness can still live full and independent lives with the right support system behind them.

Donations are still being accepted on their website. Leaders are encouraging anyone struggling with blindness to reach out to their local chapter so they can get the help they need. Click here to learn more details.
