TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida State University Head Football Coach Mike Norvell has shared the latest on the recovery process of Ethan Pritchard, who was shot in Havana in August.
During a press conference Monday, Norvell stood at a podium and announced that Pritchard, who FSU Athletics identified as a true freshman linebacker from Sanford, opened his eyes Sunday after being in critical condition since the shooting took place on August 31 near the Havana Heights Apartments.
“There’s still some major steps along the way that we are going to be believing for."
Norvell went on to say that Pritchard’s progress was “emotional for everybody” and that “it puts all things in perspective, the appreciation of a blink.”
The update regarding the football player’s recovery progress comes just three days after court records, obtained by WCTV on Friday, revealed that he had been shot in the head.
Nearly a week ago, authorities revealed that Pritchard had attended a family cookout in Havana and was driving two family members, including a 3-year-old child, home when he was ambushed.

Since then, four people have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Eighteen-year-old Caron Miller, 22-year-old Jayden Bodison and 16-year-old Anthony Glenn all face charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The fourth suspect, 23-year-old Germany Atkins, was charged with violating his probation. WCTV learned Monday that Atkins faces that charge due to law enforcement finding more than a pound of marijuana and $3,000 in cash belonging to him.

An arrest affidavit for Miller revealed that a witness told FDLE investigators that the alleged shooters were planning to target a grey Dodge Charger, which was allegedly connected to a drive-by shooting at the same apartment complex on August 25, just six days before Pritchard was shot near the area.
However, the witness went on to tell investigators that the suspects "saw the car they were shooting at, and it was the wrong car.”
