Description

LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) — Leesburg will celebrate America’s 250th birthday Friday, July 10, in the evening at its ‘Red, White & 250′ celebration.

The event will take place downtown Leesburg from 6-11 p.m. and will feature food trucks, vendors, live music, and a fireworks show.

There will also be a kids area with free face painting and bouncy houses.

“This is actually our third concert event downtown,” said Leesburg Police Chief Christopher Prokesh. “Our Downtown Development Authority’s current council really wants to emphasize all the new development going on downtown.”

Live music

Organizers said Swingin’ Medallions and Fox Brothers, two rock and country bands, are set to perform at the event. The Fox Brothers will be opening the event at 6 p. m., and The Swingin’ Medallions will be the headlining act at 8 p. m.

“Hopefully this is just a kickstart to more to come,” said Prokesh. “Hopefully next summer, we’ll be back with another event.”

Know before you go

Officials said parking will be available within walking distance of downtown, including a designated area for those who are handicapped.

People can bring their own bottled water, lawn chairs and food. However, coolers are prohibited, according to organizers.

“I would expect a pretty good turnout,” said Prokesh. “At least the size of what we had for the city’s 150th birthday, if not more.”
