Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - An update has been provided in the investigation of the possible discovery of the remains of a missing Decatur County man.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), a person’s remains were found inside of a burned vehicle. The remains are believed to be from the body of Jerry Dooling.

Investigators with the JCSO are waiting for conclusive identification of the body.

According to JCSO, investigators believe that Dooling’s vehicle drove through the field, bottomed out and eventually caught fire. It is not known if he lost control of the vehicle or had a medical episode while driving.

The State Fire Marshal is continuing to investigate this, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

JCSO is working with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the District 14 Medical Examiner’s Office, the State Fire Marshal and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office on this case.
