GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKRC) — The Kentucky man who won the big $167.3 million Powerball prize was arrested alongside his girlfriend Tuesday.

According to The New York Post, 50-year-old James Farthing of Georgetown, Kentucky and his girlfriend, 42-year-old Jacqueline Fightmaster, were arrested after an alleged physical altercation that occurred at the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach, Florida.

Farthing made headlines Monday after winning the massive multi-million dollar Powerball jackpot off a $2 ticket he purchased from a Clark's Pump N Shop on Saturday.

An arrest affidavit obtained by The Post reportedly states that Farthing got into an argument with another hotel guest at the resort's bar, and allegedly punched them in the face.

After police got involved at around 11:10 p.m., Farthing allegedly kicked a Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy in the face while authorities were attempting to break up the fight, per the publication.

Citing a report from the Smoking Gun,The Post reported that the officer involved suffered "swelling and redness" on the right side of his face.

Farthing reportedly attempted to flee after allegedly kicking the officer but was taken into custody sometime after, according to the publication.

Authorities reportedly found Fightmaster intoxicated and attempting to provoke other patrons at the bar, per The Post.

Arrest documents obtained by the publication allege that “(Fightmaster) appeared very intoxicated and was yelling, screaming and making incoherent statements."

Farthing is now facing the following charges, per The Post:

  • Battery on a law enforcement officer (Felony)
  • Two unspecified misdemeanors

Fightmaster was charged with public intoxication, according to the outlet, which noted that she was later released. Farthing, however, remains behind bars, per the publication.

Farthing said earlier in the week that he intended to split the winnings with his mother, who informed him that he had won the big prize.

They will be able to choose between a lump sum payment of $77.3 million or 30 graduated annual payments.

“It’s going to be a good Mother’s Day,” his mother said, according to a press release from the Kentucky Lottery.
