WASHINGTON (TNND) — Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota revealed that her former staffer's three kids were survivors of the Minneapolis Catholic school shooting that occurred on Wednesday morning.

“Talking to her was probably one of the most upsetting things I’ve ever heard,” Klobuchar told MSNBC of her conversation with former staffer Kate Nilan.

Klobuchar shared that Nilan's daughter "had to watch several of her friends get shot" in front of her, and she was even the one who told one of the victim's fathers that his daughter was shot.

“Her daughter, who’s seventh grade, was in that church," Klobuchar said. "These kids are doing the all-school Mass and had to watch several of her friends get shot — one in the back, one in the neck — and they all got down under the pews."

“These are her friends," Klobuchar continued. "These kids all saw it happen. They were all in that church and just a horrific, horrific thing.”

Authorities have shared that two children were killed — an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old. A total of 17 people were injured in the attack at Annunciation Catholic School, with two people in critical condition.

The shooter has been identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, a biological male who identified as a transgender woman.

Westman shot through the church's windows at 8:20 a.m., just 20 minutes into the Mass service. Westman eventually entered the church carrying a rifle, pistol and shotgun. Chief of the Minneapolis Police Department Brian O'Hara confirmed that Westman, who he called a "coward," killed himself in the back of the church.
