Dallas, TX. (WRDW/WAGT) - Lakeside’s Hamilton Coleman has won the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, becoming the first Augusta native to ever win the event.

Saturday, Coleman (No. 9 in AJGA) defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Anh Minh (No. 51 in WAGR) 2-and-1 in the 36-hole finale.

Through the first 12-holes, Coleman had a commanding 5-up lead, shrinking to a 3-up lead once the morning round had concluded.

In the afternoon round, Minh chipped away even further, winning holes 26, 29, and 30 to get within one of tying the match.

The two would share a four-hole string of pars until the par-3 35th-hole, where Coleman stuck his tee shot within 10-feet, made his birdie putt, and officially stamped his name in history.

Friday, he defeated Luke Colton (No.3 in AJGA) 5-up in the semifinals, making him the first golfer from the CSRA since 1996 to reach the final round. (Westminster’s Charles Howell III was defeated by Shane McMenamy).

Colton previously beat 2025 Sage Valley Junior Invitational winner Miles Russell to advance.

Wednesday, the future Georgia Bulldog won a 25-hole marathon, the longest U.S. Junior Amateur Championship match in 23 years, and the third longest in history.

Coleman started the event as the underdog at Trinity Forest Golf Club, and quickly showed why he made the cut at an event Tiger Woods won three years in a row.

Thursday, Coleman rallied from 3-down after 11 holes to advance to the quarterfinals, eliminating Huntsville, Alabama native Tyler Watts. Watts was the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship runner-up.
