TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A Trousdell Gymnastics Center coach has been arrested “in connection with an ongoing investigation involving the sexual assault of a minor,” according to a press release from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

Taniya “Ty” Colson, 24, was arrested Monday and is facing multiple charges, including “sexual battery involving a victim under the age of 12 and lewd and lascivious molestation involving a victim under the age of 16,” the LCSO press release said.

The press release went on to say investigators found that Colson “engaged in an inappropriate and unlawful relationship with the minor over an extended period.”

The director of the city of Tallahassee’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department, Ashley Edwards, sent a letter to parents and guardians on Monday afternoon, addressing the arrest.

“The employee, which had been on staff since 2019, has been terminated and is not allowed to return to the center,” the letter reads. “There is nothing more important than your child’s safety, which is why we are notifying you and working with law enforcement.”
