Description
LEE, Ga. (WALB) - Lee County head football coach Dean Fabrizio has been placed on a leave of absence.
According to records from the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Fabrizio was arrested at Lovers Lane Road in Albany at around 1:03 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28. He is facing the following charges:
- DUI
- Possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage
- Failure to maintain lane
All charges are misdemeanors.

In a statement, Lee County Schools told WALB that early Sunday morning, they received information about Fabrizio that warranted further investigation.
“At this time, that employee has been placed on administrative leave while the district reviews the situation and conducts an investigation,” the statement said.
Fabrizio released his own statement, where he notes that there have been mistakes made on his behalf:
“Due to mistakes that have been made on my behalf, as well as some personal issues that I need to attend to, I have been placed on a leave of absence as Head Football Coach from Lee County High School for the immediate future. In my 17 years as Head Coach at LCHS, we have always tried to hold the members of the football program to the highest standard. I hold myself to the same standard, but unfortunately, I have failed in that regard. I will be taking this time to address this and seek help.
I have poured my heart and soul into our football program, our school, and our school system for 17 years. I apologize to our school, and our school system for 17 years. I apologize to our school, parents, community, alumni, supporters, and most of all the members of this program. We have a very capable group of assistant coaches who will lead the team in my absence."
Additionally, the Lee County Touchdown Club issued a statement in support of Fabrizio:
“We recognize that he will be taking a temporary leave to attend to personal issues, which are entirely unrelated to his professional duties or interactions with students. We wholeheartedly support our Coach, having witnessed his unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of players throughout his 17 years at Lee. As he navigates these personal challenges, he deserves our compassion, prayers, and support. We eagerly anticipate his return and appreciate the continued support of the Lee County faithful. Rest assured, our team will be in capable hands until his return.”
Fabrizio has served as the Trojans HC since 2009.
