LEESBURG — Lee County’s Taliyah Porter has been named WALB Player of the Week after leading the Lady Trojans to three consecutive region victories.
Porter scored 16 points in Monday night’s non-region win over the Lady Tornadoes and followed with another 16-point performance Tuesday. She capped the undefeated week by getting to the free-throw line 10 times in a blowout victory over Houston County.
The three-game stretch came after the Lady Trojans suffered a loss to region opponent Coffee, prompting the team to evaluate their season direction.
Porter’s consistent performance helped position Lee County for a late-season run through a challenging schedule that included three region games and matchups against some of the state’s top teams.
“It’s been great. I feel like we have been a better team. We progressed than last year,” Porter said. “We have more players that want to play with more experience. And the younger team that’s coming up, they’re great.”
Porter credited the team’s approach for the successful week.
“Hustle, you know, go hard. Don’t worry about the crowd,” she said. “It was really a success for us because Monroe always beat us. So we had to go out there and play hard like we always do.”
