IRWIN COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Church members gathered outside for worship Sunday after a lightning strike sparked a fire that caused significant damage to a church building late Saturday night.

According to Irwin County Fire Rescue, lightning struck the social hall area of Frank Primitive Baptist Church, causing a fire that damaged portions of the building.

Fire officials said the fire did not impact the church’s children’s area and sanctuary. However, approximately 40% of the church sustained damage.

Despite the damage, members of the congregation came together on Sunday and held a gathering outside the church.

No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
