VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is reportedly investigating an aggravated sexual battery that occurred at the Lowndes County Jail early Friday, May 1, morning.

Shaquisha Shavaughn McDaniel, 34, of Valdosta, is accused of assaulting a 19-year-old inmate, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The incident occurred between midnight and 7 a.m. Friday, May 1, at 120 Prison Farm Road in Valdosta, according to the report.

The victim’s mother said she was notified Saturday afternoon about the assault. She said her daughter was placed in isolation following the incident and was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

The mother said her daughter was then taken to a sexual abuse center for additional examination and later placed in the medical unit at the jail. The victim has since been released from jail, records show.

McDaniel and the victim were both in jail on probation violations.

The victim’s family is working with legal counsel as the investigation continues, according to the sheriff’s office.
