TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Lowndes High School graduate and football commit who was shot in a Tallahassee parking garage has now passed away.
Lowndes Head Football Coach Adam Carter confirmed there was an honor walk for Gavin Yates-Lyons on Saturday. It’s a solemn ceremony for those who choose to be organ donors when they die.
Yates-Lyons was shot less than 24 hours after graduating, and he was signed to play football for Ball State University.
A GoFundMe for Yates-Lyons said he finished high school early and started taking classes with Ball State in January. He graduated from Lowndes on May 23.
He’s described as having a “kind heart and deep love for his family and friends.”
The shooting happened on May 24 around 5 a.m. on Chapel Drive, and the Tallahassee Police Department said two other people were also hurt.
TPD has not made any arrests. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police department at (850) 891-4200. You can also call Crime Solvers at (850) 574-TIPS.
