Description
MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) — Students with diabetes in the Colquitt County School District now have a little extra support to get them through their school day.
With the help and support of the Moultrie Federated Guild, a local community service group, every school in the district receives what they call ‘Diabetes crash boxes.’

The boxes generally include snacks such as Goldfish, fruit snacks, peanut butter crackers and juice to help students during their day.
“There’s a growing need amongst the community that we’re seeing an increase in managing chronic medical conditions in general, diabetes being one of those,” said Kristen Dekle, one of the school nurses.
After reaching out to one of the nurses and learning that they needed help getting snacks for the students, the group took action.
“Then we determined how many schools we had that had diabetic children in them and how much we could give to each school and that’s what we did. We came up with the crash boxes,” said Donna Brinson, one of the members.
