ADEL, Ga. (WALB) - A Cook County man entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment on Wednesday, May 13, after being accused of sexual acts with children.

Lafayette Miley, 55, is being charged with:

• Child Molestation (two counts)
• Aggravated Child Molestation

According to an indictment released by the Cook County Clerk of Courts, the incident allegedly happened in 2025, with two children.

The indictment stated Miley, “… did unlawfully commit an immoral and indecent act to…, (children) under the age of 16 years, … with the intent to arouse and satisfy the sexual desires of the accused.”

In a waiver of arraignment and acknowledgement of pretrial order document, Miley waived his formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty, demanding a trial by jury.

A judge denied bond for Miley in February of 2026 after he was arrested for the alleged crimes. He has remained at the Cook County Jail since.

According to sources close to the matter, attorneys representing Miley have requested another bond hearing and a change of venue for the trial.

Trial is expected to begin July 31, 2026.
