ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Two people, including a 4-year-old child, are dead after a crash tied to drag racing Saturday night in Albany, according to the Albany Police Department.

Police said the crash happened around 9:41 p.m. March 21, 2026, in the 1900 block of Krug Street. Investigators said a vehicle involved in drag racing lost control and hit a group of vehicles.

Police identified the driver as Brandon King, 24. Police said the driver of another racing vehicle initially left the scene, but Jacob Daniels Jr., 25, later returned and was taken into custody.

Police said Rickey Thomas, 26, and a 4-year-old child died from their injuries. Two other victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

According to the Dougherty County Jail Inmate search, Brandon King has been charged with:

• 2 Counts of homicide by vehicle in 1st degree
• Reckless driving
• Racing on highway/exhibition of speed or acceleration

Jacob Daniel has been charged with:

• 2 counts of homicide by vehicle in 1st degree
• Racing on highway/exhibition of speed or acceleration
• Reckless driving

According to the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office inmate search website, bond was set at $1,700 per person for the lesser charges. However, no bond amount was listed for the homicide by vehicle charges.

Albany Police said its Traffic Unit is investigating and will release updates as more information becomes available.
