MILLER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Miller County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) warned residents in a Facebook post on Monday, March 23, of a scam circulating.

MCSO said they have received reports of scammers calling residents claiming to be with their agency.

The scammers will claim the victim has missed a court date. Scammers will then demand that they pay a fine to avoid being arrested, MCSO said.

MCSO said this is a scam, and they will never call residents over the phone to demand payment.

What should you do if you receive a call like this?

MCSO said you should never give these scam callers any personal or financial information. These scammers will reportedly try to pressure you to act quickly or threaten arrest in order to get your money.

If you get a call like this, you should hang up immediately and report it to authorities.
