Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — A man from Valdosta is facing charges after an alleged violent domestic incident.

The Valdosta Police Department says on Sept. 28 around 11:15 p.m., officers went out to a home in the 2400 block of Giddens Drive. That’s in the north part of the city just off Bemiss Road. Officers responded after getting a 911 call from a woman who said a man named Aaron Michael Rodriguez, 29, had attacked her.

The woman said she had been arguing with Rodriguez when things turned physical. However, Rodriguez left the home before police got there.

The victim was able to describe Rodriguez’s car to police, and give them his license plate number. Officers found the car in the 600 block of East Ann Street. Police say nobody was inside, but the car was running.

Officers talked to people nearby, but police say they would not give any info about where Rodriguez was. Officers called for a tow truck while they kept looking for Rodriguez.

Then on the next day just before 2 a.m., someone called 911 to report that a man was attacking a woman outside of a home in the 2400 block of Giddens Drive. When officers showed up at the house again, the 911 caller told them Rodriguez had dragged the victim into the house.

Police officials say officers tried to talk to the victim at the home, but got no response. An officer was able to get into the house through a window and saw blood inside.

Officers found the victim and Rodriguez in a bathroom, and Rodriguez was arrested.

Police say the victim had visible injuries from the attack. EMS personnel responded to the house and took her to the hospital. Her injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Rodriguez was taken to the Lowndes County Jail, where police say he threatened to hurt an officer. Along with two outstanding warrants not related to this case, Rodriguez is also charged with:

  • aggravated battery (family violence)
  • 2 counts of kidnapping (family violence)
  • false imprisonment (family violence)
  • battery (family violence)
  • criminal trespass (family violence)
  • terroristic threats
  • obstruction of an officer

“I am proud of the actions of these officers. Knowing the exigency of the need to get into the residence for the safety of the victim, they did not delay in making entry. They found the victim and got her the medical assistance she needed, while also taking the offender into custody,” said Chief Leslie Manahan.
