LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The suspect at the center of a child molestation case out of Lee County was arrested in Texas.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said the sexual assault happened in the southwestern part of Lee County on Monday, Aug. 4.

An investigation found that the allegations were “consistent with rape and child molestation,” the sheriff’s office said. The investigation was then passed off to the Special Victims Unit.

Bradley Nicholas Rushing was identified as the suspect.

Investigators found that he fled Lee County and traveled to northeast Texas shortly after the incident occurred.

On Aug. 4, arrest warrants were taken out for:

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, police in Mount Pleasant found Rushing in a local motel and took him into custody. He was booked into the Titus County Jail, awaiting extradition back to Georgia.

On Wednesday, Aug. 20, Lee County deputies went to Texas to bring Rushing back to Lee County. He is currently being held at the Lee County Jail.

“Our hearts go out to the victim and their family. We are relieved that the suspect was identified and arrested quickly, and we pray there are no other victims in this case. Crime has no place in Lee County. It is not welcome, and it will not be tolerated. Crimes such as rape, child molestation, aggravated assault, robbery, and murder will be aggressively investigated and prosecuted. We will not hesitate to travel out of state to return offenders to Lee County to face justice.
