ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A man attempting to run across an Atlanta interstate was struck overnight by multiple vehicles and killed, Atlanta police said.

Just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, emergency crews responded to I-75 north near the Howell Mill Road exit, where they found an unresponsive man lying on the highway.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as 34-year-old Akil Lateef Mayer.

He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Officers have not released the name of the victim.

Crews initially shut down northbound lanes in response to the incident, but traffic through the corridor has since resumed.

Atlanta police continue to investigate and are working to learn the circumstances around the incident.
