ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A student has been arrested after they brought a gun to a Cobb County middle school on Tuesday, according to the district.

In a letter to parents, Campbell Middle School’s administration said a Cobb County School District police officer confiscated the gun.

The student, who has not been identified, is in custody and will face the “full range of legal consequences,” according to officials. Their charges are unknown.

“Moments like this are exactly why we invest significant time and resources in multiple layers of security; the processes worked as designed and kept our campus secure,” the administration said in the letter.

In its own statement, the Cobb County School District said it’s working to “fully understand what happened.”

“The presence of a weapon in a school affects more than physical safety—it can have a lasting impact on students and adults alike,” the district said. “We are grateful that our safety procedures and Cobb Schools Police allowed us to respond quickly, recover the firearm, and keep our school community safe.”
