Description

SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — A man was arrested in Sumter County after a domestic dispute that left a woman injured.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call about a domestic dispute with injuries at a home in the 1200 block of Salters Mill Road on Tuesday at around 4 p.m.

At the scene, deputies spoke with the victim, who had "obvious" injuries to her head, said the sheriff's office.

Deputies then saw a man run into the house carrying what seemed to be a rifle. The victim gave authorities more information and deputies determined that the man was alone inside the home.

That's when Sumter County deputies secured a perimeter around the house and called the Crisp County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team for help.

Overnight, deputies negotiated with the suspect, identified as Christopher Pilgrim, and it came to a peaceful end the following morning when the man surrendered.

The woman was treated for her injuries and is in recovery. Meanwhile, Pilgrim was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of terroristic threats, false imprisonment, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

Those struggling in circumstances of domestic violence can access resources by calling the National Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-7233.
