ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A 51-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times by a 16-year-old in a road rage incident on Liberty Expressway, according to the Albany Police Department (APD).

The shooting happened around 5:18 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 on Liberty Expressway near Jefferson Street, APD said. A portion of the busy road was closed for roughly three hours.

Police said the victim, later identified as William Rimes, cut the teen’s car off on the highway. Rimes reportedly got out of his car and walked up to the teen’s car. The teen then shot Rimes, APD said.

APD says when officers responded, they found Rimes lying on his stomach on the Exit 5 off-ramp. Several people were there trying to help Rimes, police say.

Both Rimes and the 16-year-old will be charged, APD said. Their charges are as follows:

Rimes

• Reckless conduct
• False imprisonment

16-year-old

• Aggravated assault
• Possession of a handgun under the age of 18
