Description
MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) — A Colquitt County family is one step closer to justice.
A grand jury indicted George Montgomery in connection to the 2024 deaths of Jessica Phillips, 34, and Ellie Phillips, 3.

According to an indictment filed in Colquitt County Superior Court, Montgomery faces:
- Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree (two counts)
- Serious Injury by Vehicle
- Reckless Driving
- Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
“We want justice for the two precious lives that were taken from us. We’re all hurting tremendously,” Janeane Cobb, the mother of Jessica Phillips, said. “We don’t get to have them anymore.”
While the mother and daughter were killed in the crash, fortunately, Jessica’s husband and three boys were pulled from the burning vehicle by bystanders.
According to the indictment, Montgomery “… did drive a motor vehicle in reckless disregard for the safety of persons and property, by failing to yield at a stop sign, entering the intersection at a high rate of speed and causing a collision.”
WALB first told you about the crash that happened at the intersection of Bob Taylor Rd and GA-111 in October 2024. The family was headed to take family pictures.
“Me as her mother, it has broke me. Jessica was a wonderful person. Ellie was such a special little girl,” Cobb said.
Originally, WALB reported that Montgomery was also charged with ‘Hit and Run Resulting in Serious Injury.’ The indictment filed in June, does not list that charge. Jessica’s husband, Eric Phillips, says that leaves him with a grey area.
“There’s just a lot of questions I would like to get truthful answers for. I hope me and my family get the justice we deserve. They were both beautiful souls and none of us deserved any of this.”
According to Asst. District Attorney April Hancock, Montgomery has hired a new attorney and waived arraignment. Hancock also said the case could be on the county’s next trial calendar.
