Description

MOSCOW, Idaho (KBOI) — The Moscow Police Department has released hundreds of previously confidential documents from its investigation into the brutal murder of four University of Idaho students. This disclosure came just hours after the killer, Bryan Kohberger, was sentenced to multiple life terms for the crimes.

According to the Idaho Statesman, the documents include a general summary of the case and over 300 supplementary files. The Police narratives describe blood-soaked bedding, pools of blood on the floors, and "traumatic injuries" suffered by the victims.

The murders, which occurred nearly three years ago on November 13, 2022, have largely been kept from public view until now.

Kohberger, 30, pleaded guilty earlier this month to avoid the death penalty and is currently held at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna.

Kohberger admitted to killing seniors Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, both 21, junior Xana Kernodle, 20, and freshman Ethan Chapin, 20. The attack took place in an off-campus home on 1122 King Road in Moscow.

Police reports detail the discovery of the crime scene, where officers found distraught friends and roommates outside. Inside, they encountered the bodies of the four victims.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner's report detailed the victims' causes of death.

Chapin died from a neck stab wound, severing his jugular vein, subclavian vein, and artery. Kernodle suffered over 50 stab wounds, many defensive, to her heart and lungs. Mogen's fatal injuries included lacerations to her liver and lung. Goncalves sustained sharp and blunt force injuries, including a lung laceration and severed artery and vein in her clavicle.
