QUITMAN, Ga. (WCTV) - A Quitman family is grieving the loss of their daughter after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed 31-year-old Tamesha Bartee was a victim of homicide.
GBI confirmed Tamesha Bartee, who lived at an apartment complex on North Jefferson Street, was found unresponsive in a vehicle on Monday. Investigators later determined she had been shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
Bartee’s mother, Carla Folsom, said she was an outstanding mother, friend and daughter.
“People coming to me that I don’t even know that knew my daughter, she knew a lot of people, and she was loved by a lot of people because of how she showed herself to them,” Folsom said.
They say when they heard what happened, they couldn’t understand how someone could do this to her and leave her three boys without a mother.
“I got my babies, I got all babies, and I’m living through my daughter, I’m going to love them like my daughter loved them… I won’t let them down, because they are looking at me now," Folsom said. “My daughter didn’t deserve that; she wasn’t a mean person like that for them to take her life like that.”
Tamesha’s family says her funeral will be next Saturday in Quitman.
Bartee’s father, Michael Harrell, said, “Children are supposed to bury their father and their mother, we are not supposed to bury our kids.”
They say they will never let her name be forgotten, and they hope they can get justice for her soon.
“She touched so many lives, she won’t, she won’t, 31 years old and she touched so many lives at a young age,” Folsom said.
GBI said no arrests have been made at this time. Investigators say if you know anything, you’re asked to contact the GBI office in Thomasville at 229-225-4090.
