ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A man is in custody following an over two-hour standoff with law enforcement officials in Albany.

At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, a suspect barricaded himself in a home off of Roosevelt Avenue in Albany.

The suspect, Robert Clark, had 13 warrants out for his arrest, according to Dougherty County Sheriff Terron Hayes.

When officers tried to serve him these warrants, the suspect ran inside the house and into the attic where he fired shots at the officers who chased him into the house.

No officers were injured due to the gunfire, but one officer did sustain a laceration on his finger.

After the suspect barricaded himself in the attic, the officers on scene waited for the SWAT team to arrive to begin the negotiation process. According to Sheriff Hayes, the negotiation process was intense when speaking with the suspect.

Once they could talk Clark down, officials were able to lure the suspect out of the house. The standoff lasted for about two and a half hours.

A suspect was taken into custody Tuesday, Nov. 18 at about 6:40 p.m. following a standoff with law enforcement officials.

Clark is currently in custody. He was reportedly taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital before being taken to the Dougherty County Jail.

The 13 warrants Clark had out for his arrest are as follows, according to jail records:

  • Fleeing/Attempting to elude a police officer (felony)
  • Battery
  • Hit and run - Striking fixtures
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to maintain lane
  • No insurance
  • Vehicle registration violation
  • Use of license plate to conceal identification of vehicle
  • Failure to appear (felony)
  • Failure to appear (original offense and DOA)
  • Probation violation
  • Red light violation
  • Speeding

Clark’s total bond mount is listed as $4,900.
