ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A suspect was taken into custody Tuesday, Nov. 18 at about 6:40 p.m. following a standoff with law enforcement officials.

Officers with the Albany Police Department (APD) are in an active standoff with a suspect who was barricaded in a residence in East Albany.

Law enforcement reportedly breached the residence at about 6:30 p.m.

The male suspect reportedly fired shots at a law enforcement officer, prompting a standoff on Roosevelt Avenue.

Albany Police Chief Michael Persley, whose officers are also responding to this scene, said that the officer who was fired at was not hit, and that officer did not fire back.

It is unclear what agency that officer is with because several agencies responded to the scene.

Negotiations between law enforcement and the suspect are underway right now, according to Chief Persley.

Several streets in the area appear to be blocked off.
