Description

COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Coffee County’s newly launched Drug Interdiction & Criminal Enforcement Unit (D.I.C.E.) is already making its presence felt, reporting a series of arrests in its first two weeks of operation.

According to CCSO, these arrests include the capture of a repeat fugitive who had been dodging law enforcement for months.

The Sheriff’s Office launched the D.I.C.E. Unit on Nov. 1, 2025, working closely with the combined Douglas Police Department and CCSO Drug Unit (DCDU) to target drug trafficking and criminal activity countywide.

Since its formation, the unit has made multiple arrests:

  • Nov. 4: Brittany Gilcris was arrested for suspected meth possession. A follow-up search warrant led to additional charges for Jerome Daniels.
  • Nov. 6: Windell Douglas was arrested after deputies found him unconscious behind the wheel; suspected meth was recovered.
  • Nov. 7: Demtric Limike Davis was taken into custody on warrants for false imprisonment, family violence battery, and a probation violation.
  • Nov. 8: Randy Keene was arrested on a meth sale warrant; more meth was found during the search.
  • Nov. 8: Jose Manuel Lopez Sales was arrested on multiple traffic violations and an active ICE detainer.
  • Nov. 8: William Shawn V was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Most recently, on Nov. 16, agents located and arrested 43-year-old William Micajah Batten of Douglas, a man deputies say had repeatedly fled from law enforcement to avoid being taken into custody. Batten, a convicted felon, violated his parole stemming from prior drug charges and is known to investigators for distributing methamphetamine and ephedrine.

Deputies say Batten again attempted to run during this latest encounter, but the coordinated response from the newly formed D.I.C.E. Unit led to a swift arrest. He was transported to the Coffee County Pre-Trial Detention Center without incident.

Sheriff Fred Cole said the effort reflects the county’s tough stance on crime. “This operation is exactly what our zero-tolerance, no-nonsense policy looks like,” Cole said, adding that the goal is to stop drug trafficking “before it reaches neighborhoods.”

WALB’s Taylor Lewis is working to gather community reaction to the heightened enforcement, particularly in areas along Highway 221, Baker Highway, and rural corridors where residents have expressed concerns about drug activity.
