Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Georgia homeowners are seeing significant reductions in their electric bills thanks to a new $220 million energy rebate program, part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. The program, designed to help residents make their homes more energy efficient, has already impacted many.
The program, which fully launched earlier this year after a successful 2024 pilot, is championed by Tracy Martin, Director of Dealer Development at Aeroseal. Martin expressed her motivation to help homeowners.
“It makes me feel extremely motivated to create awareness and promote this program and help homeowners become educated, informed and make decisions. Because nobody should have to overpay for their energy, and nobody should have to overpay to live in a comfortable space,” Martin said.
Her company, Aeroseal, specializes in identifying and sealing leaks in home ventilation systems and insulation, which are common culprits for high energy bills.
“Lots of leak points in the home can make that very expensive air that the homeowner is paying for leak out where you don’t want it to leak,” she explained.
One beneficiary of the program is Debra Sinyard, a Georgia homeowner who has already seen improvements.
“I do notice my heater coming on. It doesn’t come on as often. It seems like it’s holding the heat in better,” Sinyard said, noting the impact on her older double-wide home. “I don’t feel any drafts and I’m in a double-wide— an older double-wide —so I think it’s really gonna help.”
Sinyard expressed deep gratitude for the assistance.
“It feels like a blessing... I would have never been able to get that done without that help,” she added, highlighting the challenges of affording home maintenance.
Sinyard said her power bill dropped from $161 to $125 after participating in the program.
