ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A new poll conducted for the Natural Gas Association of Georgia shows Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms with a slight lead over Rick Jackson in the race to become the Peach State’s 84th governor.

The Quantus Insights survey of 815 likely voters shows Bottoms at 46.4% to Jackson’s 44.9%, with 7.7% of respondents undecided. The poll was conducted July 29-August 1, and has a 3.6% margin of error.

“The margin is narrow enough to leave Georgia where it has spent much of the past decade: at the center of the national political battlefield,” the poll’s analysis said.

Jackson has already accepted an invitation to debate Bottoms in a town hall-style format hosted by Gray Media, parent company of Atlanta News First. Bottoms issued a challenge to Jackson for a series of debates earlier this year, but the former Atlanta mayor has not yet accepted the Gray Media debate invitation.

Two seats on Georgia’s hugely important Public Service Commission rates are on the November ballot, and both of those seats are effectively tied, the poll said. Peter Hubbard leads Fitz Johnson 39.4% to 38.4% in District 3, while in District 5, Sheila Edwards leads with 40.2% over Josh Tolbert at 38.1%.

Nearly one in five voters remains undecided in each PSC race, according to the poll.
