ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — As Albany prepares for the rescheduled 35th Annual Celebration of Lights, city officials have announced several updated road closures and adjustments to the parade route ahead of Saturday’s festivities.
The parade and Christmas Village will bring thousands downtown, and transportation crews will begin blocking off streets ahead of the event.

Pine Avenue Closures
- Pine Avenue will close from the west side of N. Monroe Street to the east side of N. Washington Street beginning at noon.
- At 10 a.m., the following closures will take effect:
- Monroe Street (south side) and Pine Avenue (west side)
- Pine Avenue on both the east and west sides of Jefferson Street
- Washington Street (south side) and Pine Avenue (east side)
Jefferson Street (SR-91)
- Jefferson Street will shut down to all north–south traffic at 4 p.m., with detour signage posted to redirect drivers.
Jackson Street
- Beginning Friday night, Jackson Street will close from Pine Avenue’s south side to Broad Avenue’s north side.
- On Saturday at 4 p.m., the closure on Pine Avenue will shift from the south side to the north side to accommodate the parade route.
- Alleys will remain open and accessible from both Broad Avenue and Flint Avenue.
Judicial Building Parking Lot
- The parking lot in front of the Judicial Building on Pine Avenue will be blocked off starting Thursday, Dec. 11, at 5 p.m.
Detour Routes
- Broad Avenue, Harding Street, and Flint Avenue will serve as detour paths while closures are in effect.
City officials encourage residents and parade visitors to plan ahead, arrive early, and follow posted traffic signs to avoid delays.
