OCILLA, Ga. (WALB) - The City of Ocilla has officially ended its educational period for the golf cart ordinance, with enforcement beginning today, April 20, according to the Ocilla Police Department (OPD).
Officials say the ordinance was created to allow residents to safely enjoy golf carts throughout the city, but recent violations have raised concerns. Common issues include underage drivers, nighttime operation, and carts being driven on restricted highways.

Under the ordinance, golf cart drivers must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver’s license, or 15 years old if accompanied by a licensed adult. Carts must be registered with the city and display an official city-issued tag.
According to a Facebook post from OPD, violations can result in fines starting at $100 for a first offense, increasing for repeat violations. The Official City of Ocilla, Ga Golf Cart Tag can be purchased at City Hall.
Officials are reminding residents to review the rules and operate carts safely.
